Elementary 1

First grade students have had fun painting in Art class.  First semester they learned to use the primary colors, red, yellow and blue, to make orange, green and violet. Black was added to orange to create brown, white was added to any of the colors to make tints.  The resulting colors were used to paint a lovely Fall foliage picture. (See attached files.)

In January, Grade 1 students imagined having fun in the snow and did oil pastel and tempera resist action pictures.  They also created some stunning snowman mixed media (tissue collage and tempera) pictures. 

February saw these students exploring facial features in frontal and profile views and drawing some very interesting Picasso style faces. I think Picasso would like them!

 In March our attention turned to representing facial features in 3-D and students used modeling compound to turn some ordinary paper plates into very unique and decorative Mexican sun faces.

The year will conclude with 3-D animal and/or character modeling and a floral garden compositon.

Be sure and see your student's work at the Spring Art Show May 13.  Art may be taken home that evening.  Items selected for State Fair Exhibition will be marked with a star on the back.
