Friday 9/21- Demo: Lemon zester, pastry blender, and apple corer/slicer.
Answer 3 questions from the board. Eat our soup and apple crisp. Yum!

Monday 10/1- Demo: How to dispose of broken glass safely. Read Ch 8 p. 149-151 How to prevent falls and burns. Handout for folder preventing burns in the kitchen; review in class. Make posters on how to prevent burns.
Tuesday 10/2- Ch 8 Read p. 151-153 How to prevent fires. E.D.I.T.H. drill WS due 10/3.
Wednesday 10/3- Remember the word P.A.S.S. Pull the pin; Aim low; Squeeze the handle; Sweep from side to side. CH 8 Read p. 153-157 How to prevent electric shock, poisonings, choking, and other hazzards. Examine appliance cords/plugs. Students determine which are heavy duty and basic household. Don't choke on your words WS due 10/4.
Thursday 10/4- Ch 8 Read p. 157 - 161 First Aid. Review for Ch 8 test. Do p. 161, 1-11 in class. First Aid WS. Due 10/5.
Friday 10/5- Finish burn posters. In groups, students make up and write out skits to act out different emergency situations in class.

Tuesday 10/30- Final vote for Cafe theme. Read resumes p. 546-549. Aaplication letter for cafe jobs in class. Sample resume and WS due 11/2. Must have final draft of resume on Fri 11/2 to interview for job at cafe. Students may work on resumes in computer class.
Wednesday 10/31- Committee work for invitations, menus and decorating.
Thursday 11/1- Invitations go home to parents. Finish committee work, Actions to Avoid WS and resumes.
Friday 11/2- Interviews. Students must be dressed for interview and have finished final draft of reume.
Monday 11/5- Mock run-through for cafe. Set up classroom and all stations.
Tuesday 11/6- Committee work and trainging.
Wednesday 11/7- Committee work and training.
Thursday 11/8- Committee work and training.
Friday 11/9- Committee work and training. Final run thruogh.
Monday 11/12- Lab: Prepare all foods for Cafe. Decorate commons. Set up rooms and stations for Cafe. Permission slips go home for movie on Th and Fri.
Tuesday 11/13- CAFE!! Students and parent helpers arrive at 6:00am to start cooking and set up. Parents attending the breakfast arrive at 7:30 am-9:30am.
Wednesday 11/14- Finish cleaning up and answer questionnaire about Cafe.

Buttermilk Pancakes
(This recipe is from Better Homes and Gardens New Cookbook Edition)
1 cup flour
1 Tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 beaten egg
1 cup buttermilk
2 Tablespoons oil
1. Combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt; set aside. Combine the egg, butter and oil. Add egg mixture to flour mixture. Stir just until moistened. Add additional buttermilk to thin batter if necessary.
2. For about 8 standard size pancakes, pour about 1/4 cup batter onto a hot lightly greased griddle or heavy skillet. Enjoy!

Tuesday 11/27- Talk about egg project. HW- bring an egg decorated and named with a birth certificate (optional) due by Tuesday 12/4. Experiences with Children WS.
Wednsday 11/28- Read topic 2-1 p. 86-76. Answer questions 1-3p. 71; 1-3p. 72; 1-2p. 74; 1-2p. 76. Make mini-posters Keeping Children Safe from chart on page 69 or Guiding Childrens Behavior page 73.
Thursday 11/29- Quiz 2-1. Finish mini-posters. Skits- students role-play situations that could happen while babysitting.
Friday 11/30- 4th grade visit. Catch-up day.
Monday 12/3- Read topic 2-2 p. 77-87. Answer questions p. 1-2; p. 80 1-3; p.81 1-3; p. 83 1-3; p. 87 1-3. A Cry for Help WS.
Tuesday 12/4- Eggs are due today decorated and named. Review instructions and rules for egg-care and what is acceptaable and what is not. Students will recieve extra credit for careing for their egg through the weekend untill Monday 12/10, but is not mandatory.
Wednesday 12/5- Baby's Development WS. Quiz 2-2. Collages- cut out pictures from magazines about development of babies from birth -1 year. Discus in class.
Thursday 12/6- Egg-care logs, eggs and parent notes are due today. Write a paper about how it felt to be totally responsible for your egg. Did it go well? What was hard about it? What was easy about it? Did you like taking care of your egg? What were 5 good things about this project? What were 5 not-so-good things about this project? What did you learn from doing this project?
Friday 12/7- 7th only (hand bells) Groups will brainstorm a list of 10 things babies need to grow. Then put a star by the one they feel babies need the most and tell why they choose this item. Discus in class. Skits- what to do for babies in each situation from hungry, wet, cold, frightened, uncomfortable and bored.
Monday 12-10-Extra credit eggs are due today. Read topic 2-3 p. 88-96. Amswer questions on p. 90 1-2; p. 92 1-2 top and lower 1-2; p.95 1-3. No! No! WS. Chioces for Todlers WS. Students are to bring a roll of cookie dough and/or a can of frosting due Thur 12/13.
Tuesday 12/ 11- Students anwer questions 1-7 in class. Skits- students act out different responses from Choices for Toddlers WS. Review for quiz.
Wednesday 12/12- Quix 2-3. Make Christmas cards for soldiers.
