Hi~

READING: We've begun our sixth and final unit in the Reading Series - Our Country and Its People.  The focus of this unit is how people have come from all over the world to settle in America, and we've discussed where some of the student's ancestors are from.  Feel free to share with them your family's "story"!

WRITING: We had a great time finding and sharing poems with the other classes for National Poetry Month and Poem in Your Pocket Day. The children were so excited to share, and they worked hard memorizing their poems.  We have been doing some other writings with poems and rhymes, which is a wonderful way to practice writing skills. We're also starting to talk about the Voice Trait - ask them about the persuasive writing they did in class today!

ENGLISH: We have just begun to discuss adjectives and we will continue to study this during the month of April.

HANDWRITING: We've completed learning the alphabet and now we just need to Practice, Practice, Practice! Some of the kids are still getting confused about how to write some of the letters because it hasn't become a habit, but we will be writing in cursive almost exclusively from now until school ends.  I want them to practice Spelling List #25 in print (for next Friday May 2), but after that, they will be testing in cursive.  More information on that will come home next Friday.
